Pelvic Pain Physiotherapy in Christchurch
Pelvic pain can range from a persistent ache to something that takes over your entire day affecting your work, your relationships, and your ability to do the things you love. If you’re living with pelvic pain, you’re not alone, and you don’t have to just put up with it.
At Liberty Pelvic Health, our pelvic health physiotherapists are experienced in treating complex pelvic pain. We’ll take the time to truly understand your experience and work with you to find lasting relief.
What causes pelvic pain?
Most people experiencing pelvic pain have some degree of pelvic floor muscle dysfunction. The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that support your bladder, bowel, and sexual function. When these muscles aren’t working well, pain can spread and intensify.
Pelvic pain is often made worse by dysfunction in the surrounding muscles, joints, and nerves that work alongside the pelvic floor. Pelvic pain is rarely just a “muscle problem,” it’s complex, and it deserves expert care.
When the pelvic floor is affected, so are the functions it controls, including:
- Bladder function (leaking, urgency, frequency, or pain)
- Bowel function (constipation, urgency, or pain)
- Sexual function (painful sex, reduced sensation)
- Breathing patterns
Our approach to pelvic pain treatment
We understand that pelvic pain has many components. That’s why we assess all factors including muscles, joints, and nerves, and the central factors, including how your nervous system has learned to respond to pain.
We work closely with gynaecologists, pain specialists, psychologists, and GPs to ensure you receive coordinated, whole-person care and the best possible outcome.
